Welcome to Practice-based Facilitation

Practice-based Facilitation shifts the focus of learning from the educator's dissemination of knowledge to the learner's discovery of knowledge through engaging in these knowledge-making practices. While this curriculum was developed to focus facilitation on engaging visitors to interactive science centers in the disciplinary practices of science, it has been broadened to include practices of all of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) disciplines and expand on the strategies for interactive science centers to include a wide range of informal learning environments. We have developed a four-session training module (approximately 8 hours) and bite-sized mini-modules (approximately 1-hour each) accompanied by improvisation training so you can pick the training model that works best for your museum.
